The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is expanding with the launch of a women’s T20 league this year. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced the Women’s BPL on February 11, set to run from April 3 to April 15. This initiative is part of the BCB’s long-term plan to enhance women’s cricket in the country.

This league will mark Bangladesh’s first franchise-based T20 competition for women. Nigar Sultana, the captain of the Bangladesh women’s team, expressed her enthusiasm, noting that the league will help prepare her team for the Women’s T20 World Cup in 2026.

Nigar Sultana stated: “There has been talk for many years about this (WBPL), and now it’s finally happening. It’s great news. We have always argued for a competitive franchise tournament for women. Other countries are already benefitting from their women’s franchise-based T20 tournaments.”

The inaugural season will include three franchises, and a draft system will be used to select players, ensuring competitive balance. The league will enhance its quality as franchises can sign International players, bringing global attention to the event.
