England’s wicketkeeper Jos Buttler has set a new world record for the highest catch of a Cricket ball. This achievement took place in February 2026 in Cape Town, South Africa, during a unique challenge involving a drone.

Jos Buttler sets world record with a stunning catch at an impressive height

The catch, filmed for the YouTube channel ‘The Switch’ by former England player Kevin Pietersen, showcased Buttler in his wicketkeeping gear. He caught a cricket ball dropped from a drone at a height of 122 metres (about 400.26 feet). At this height, the ball reaches terminal velocity, causing it to hit with great force. This challenge was made harder by Cape Town’s windy conditions and the small size of the ball as it fell.

By catching the ball from 122 metres, Buttler surpassed the previous record of 119.86 metres (393 feet) set by Australian Thimothy Shanon Jebaseelan in 2021. This puts him among an exclusive group of cricketers known for attempting high-altitude catches, including Nasser Hussain and Alyssa Healy. While the catch has been clearly recorded, it is still awaiting final approval from Guinness World Records.
