Ireland achieved their first victory in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup with a solid 96-run win over Oman at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground. After being put to bat first, Ireland faced early challenges, falling to 47/3 during the powerplay, with Shakeel Ahmed taking three wickets. However, stand-in captain Lorcan Tucker played a crucial role in stabilizing the innings. He partnered with Gareth Delany, who scored 56 runs off 30 balls. Tucker finished unbeaten with an impressive 94 runs from 51 balls, accelerating in the final overs. George Dockrell added to the total with a quick 35* off just nine balls, pushing Ireland to a strong total of 235/5, including an impressive 93 runs in the last five overs.

Oman started their chase on a strong note, with 44-year-old Aamir Kaleem scoring 50 runs off 29 balls. Along with Hammad Mirza, they kept Oman in the game at 97/2. However, after Kaleem’s dismissal, the innings fell apart. Josh Little changed the match’s course with figures of 3/16, while McCarthy and Humphreys supported well. Oman was bowled out for 139 in just 18 overs, handing Ireland a convincing victory.
