Former Pakistan batter Mohammad Yousuf criticized Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi after the team lost to India by 61 runs in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 match at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday. Both senior players did not perform well, and India advanced to the Super 8 stage with ease.
Shaheen gave away 31 runs in his two overs while India scored 175/7 in their innings. As the only pacer used, Shaheen struggled and was hit for runs by Ishan Kishan and Rinku Singh.
Babar Azam played a poor shot when Pakistan was already in a tough position chasing 176 runs, making just 5 runs off 7 balls before being out by Axar Patel. Shadab Khan also underperformed, allowing 17 runs in the singe over he bowled. After these disappointing performances from experienced players, Yousuf suggested it’s time to bring in younger talent.
“Time’s up for Shaheen, Babar, and Shadab. Pakistan’s T20 squad needs new performers, not empty wins against weaker sides,” Yousuf stated on X.
