USA cricketer Sanjay Krishnamurthi expressed gratitude to the large crowd at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai for attending the T20 World Cup 2026 match between the USA and Namibia.
The stadium, home to the five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions Chennai Super Kings, was lively on Sunday, February 15, as fans cheered for both teams. Chennai’s Cricket fans are noted for their game knowledge, and they witnessed an exciting match that the USA won by 31 runs.
Krishnamurthi, who played a key role in the victory and was named Player of the Match, commented on the significant support from the fans at Chepauk.
“For a game like USA vs. Namibia to have this kind of crowd is incredible. In Associate cricket, we don’t often see such crowds, so it’s really special. I appreciate everyone for coming,” Krishnamurthi stated during the post-match ceremony.
Earlier, USA captain Monank Patel won the toss and chose to bat first. He set the stage for his team with a quick-fire 52 runs off 30 balls. Although Shayan Jahangir and Saiteja Mukkamalla had starts, they failed to convert them into big scores. However, Krishnamurthi topped the innings with an unbeaten 68 off 33 balls, hitting four fours and six sixes. Milind Kumar also contributed with a score of 28 runs from 20 balls.
In response, Namibia had a strong start with their openers putting together a half-century partnership during the powerplay. Still, Louren Steenkamp was the only top-order batter to make a fifty.
Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton and JJ Smit provided some valuable runs, but it wasn’t enough as Namibia ended their innings at 168/6. Shadley van Schalkwyk took two wickets, maintaining his position as the leading wicket-taker in the tournament.
