Former Indian coach Ravi Shastri has advised Abhishek Sharma to take his time recovering from his recent poor performance. This follows Abhishek’s dismissal for a four-ball duck during the India vs Pakistan match at the T20 World Cup 2026 in Colombo. This was his second consecutive duck in the tournament and his third in the last five T20I innings. The world’s top-ranked T20I batter hasn’t scored any runs in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
Abhishek Sharma’s last T20I half-century was against New Zealand in Guwahati.
During a conversation with Sanjana Ganesan, Ravi Shastri expressed his belief that Abhishek Sharma would bounce back from his slump. He emphasized that Sharma should be patient and allow himself more time to establish his innings.
Shastri noted that low scores are common in Cricket, and once Abhishek finds his rhythm, he will easily turn dot balls into boundaries and sixes.
“I think he’s due for a big score, but he just needs to give himself some time. These things happen, and it’s easy to lose form, but he just has to be patient until he returns to his best. Converting dot balls into boundaries and sixes won’t be a challenge for him later on,” Shastri stated.
Shastri also praised Ishan Kishan for his outstanding performance, highlighting that achieving a nearly 200 strike rate on the challenging Colombo pitch was impressive.
“He’s playing exceptionally well. To strike at nearly 200 on that Colombo surface is remarkable. No batter found it easy, whether Indian or Pakistani, as the ball was stopping. His ability to adapt quickly to the conditions really impressed me,” Shastri added.
