NEW DELHI (AP) — South Africa achieved a target of 123 runs with 40 balls remaining on Wednesday, ending the group stage of the T20 World Cup unbeaten.

Choosing to field first, South Africa limited the United Arab Emirates to 122-6. Corbin Bosch stood out with 3 wickets for just 12 runs in four overs, while Anrich Nortje took 2 wickets for 28 runs.

South Africa reached 123-4 in 13.2 overs, scoring the last seven runs in singles after losing their fourth wicket.

Rain caused a delay before South Africa’s innings, and the first over yielded only one run.

However, they quickly picked up pace, scoring 13 runs in the second over and 18 in the third. Aiden Markram, the captain, was bowled for 28 runs off 11 balls, with most of his scores coming from boundaries.

Dewald Brevis was the top scorer with 36 runs before being dismissed just before victory was secured. Ryan Rickelton added 30 runs as South Africa took control of the game.

For the UAE, Alishan Sharafu led with 45 runs from 38 balls before falling to Nortje in the 18th over.

This win marked South Africa’s fourth consecutive victory in the tournament, including a tense match against Afghanistan that went to two Super Overs.

South Africa chose to rest key players David Miller, Keshav Maharaj, Marco Jansen, and Lungi Ngidi ahead of the Super 8 stage.

In other matches on Wednesday, Pakistan faced Namibia in Colombo, while co-host India played the Netherlands in Ahmedabad to conclude Group A matches.
