Yuvraj Samra entered the 2026 T20 World Cup as a key player after a stunning performance in the qualifiers. He made history by becoming the youngest centurion in T20 World Cup history at just 19 years old. He achieved this milestone against New Zealand during a group-stage match on February 17 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

During the event, Samra shared some insights about his record-breaking century, his admiration for Yuvraj Singh, receiving advice from him, and his dream of playing for the Mumbai Indians, a team his father supports.

1. You became the youngest T20 World Cup centurion. How do you feel about this record?

It feels amazing. Scoring 100 in the World Cup was a dream, and now it feels unreal.

2. You’re named after Yuvraj Singh. Did you get any advice from him?

We didn’t have much time to talk, but we discussed his approach to the game.

3. How was the atmosphere in your dressing room after your century?

Everyone was really proud, especially since I’m Canadian. It was a significant achievement for associate Cricket.

4. Your father hopes you will join the Mumbai Indians. Why is that?

It’s his favorite team, and he really wants to see me play for them.

5. If you were picked for any IPL team, which one would you choose?

I would say Mumbai Indians, but I’d be happy with any team that selects me.

6. Is there a captain you wish to play under?

It doesn’t really matter to me.

7. Who was your batting idol growing up?

Yuvraj Singh was my idol, which is why I have his name. I admire his batting style and how he swings the bat.

8. If India and Canada were in the same group, which bowler would you want to face?

I would look forward to facing Jasprit Bumrah. He’s one of the best bowlers, and his unique action is a challenge.

9. Which Indian batsman do you admire the most?

I really admire Abhishek Sharma for his aggressive batting style.

10. Name five all-time great batsmen.

That’s a tough question. Yuvraj Singh, Adam Gilchrist, Brian Lara, Sachin Tendulkar, and Chris Gayle are my picks.

11. What gives you such a strong mindset in the game?

I think it comes naturally to me. I tell myself to play fearless and show what I can do.

Samra finished the 2026 T20 World Cup with 144 runs in four innings, averaging 36 with a strike rate of 156.53. He aims to build on this success in Canada’s upcoming matches.
