Virat Kohli held the T20 World Cup record for the highest batting average for many years until he retired from this format. West Indies player Sherfane Rutherford surpassed this record with an unbeaten score of 31 against Zimbabwe.

Rutherford has performed strongly throughout the 2026 T20 World Cup, losing his wicket only once. He came into the match against Zimbabwe at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai with 33 balls to go. The 27-year-old took just 13 deliveries to make a significant impact, helping the West Indies reach a total of 254 runs, their second-highest score in T20 World Cup history.
