Maharaj Looks for Ahmedabad Crowd’s Support
The Indian Cricket team and their supporters would likely want South Africa to win against the West Indies.
In a pre-match press conference, Keshav Maharaj expressed his hopes for Indian fan support, stating:
“Yes, definitely. The crowd in Ahmedabad has been welcoming, so we hope for more support against the West Indies.”
Referring to South Africa’s 76-run victory over India, Maharaj noted it was a significant win against a strong team in the tournament.

He also added:
“After beating India, our team is feeling a real energy boost. Beating a top team like India is big for us, but we need to stay focused. There’s still much cricket to be played, so we’ll build on our positives and improve.”
South Africa Not Done Yet, Says Maharaj
South Africa’s bowling attack performed impressively last match, limiting India to just 111 runs.
However, they face a tougher challenge against the West Indies, led by Shimron Hetmyer, who recently scored 254 against Zimbabwe.
Discussing the challenge, he noted:
“We executed our plans well against India, thanks to our fast bowlers. The West Indies, however, are a powerful batting team, so we need sound strategies for their batters while adapting to the conditions.”
Although South Africa is close to qualifying for the semi-finals, they are focusing on one game at a time as the tournament intensifies.

He added:
“We’re treating each game as important. Winning against India boosts our confidence, but the next game against the West Indies is crucial. They put up a great performance against Zimbabwe, so we need to prepare thoroughly.”
On the significance of the game, he said:
“This game is critical for us. A win could secure our place in the semi-finals. The West Indies can surprise teams, and we need to be clear about our execution.”
