Samson scored the first century of the IPL 2026 season after a slow start in his first three matches for Chennai Super Kings, helping the team win by 23 runs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
“His shot selection shows he plays all around the ground. He doesn’t just rely on one side. What stood out was his focus on playing straight rather than with a horizontal bat.
“When a batter aims to play with a straight bat but can adjust when bowlers pitch short, scoring runs becomes easier. His awareness at the crease is top-notch, and when he gets going, he capitalizes,” he said.
“In the T20 World Cup, he missed out on converting 90s to 100s, but he achieved that in this match. This was his first century for CSK and the fourth of his career, providing relief for both CSK and Sanju Samson, who faced pressure after three challenging games,” Kumble shared on JioHotstar.
Former Indian player Cheteshwar Pujara, who played for CSK in IPL 2021, noted that this victory will boost the confidence of Ruturaj Gaikwad’s team.
“Winning helps build belief in making the playoffs. Losing can create negativity, even if you try to stay positive. Once the team starts winning, everyone’s mindset shifts,” he added.
