The discussion about the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is still a hot topic on social media. It surfaced again during a press conference on Saturday, April 11, which led to a tricky moment for Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis.
Mendis, who is playing for Peshawar Zalmi this season, was asked why he left the PSL midway to join the IPL franchise Gujarat Titans in 2025. He had played eight matches for Quetta Gladiators in PSL 2025 before leaving the tournament due to security concerns. Later, he joined Gujarat Titans as a replacement for Jos Buttler in the playoffs.
However, his IPL journey hit a snag when he was released by Gujarat and went unsold at the recent auction. Returning to the PSL this season, he has performed well, scoring 241 runs in four matches for Peshawar Zalmi.
A reporter asked him if he regretted leaving the PSL for the IPL, especially after not being picked in the auction. This question made the atmosphere uncomfortable, prompting the moderator to ask the reporter to focus on the current PSL and Peshawar Zalmi’s performance.
