Simon Helmot has resigned from his position as head coach of the Melbourne Renegades Women. He has been part of the Women’s Big Bash League since 2021 and led the team to a championship in 2024, collaborating closely with captain Sophie Molineux. Although he had committed to a three-year contract after their title win, he is stepping down to explore new opportunities.

Currently, Helmot is involved in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 as an assistant to head coach Daniel Vettori with Sunrisers Hyderabad. While he continues with the IPL team, he has left his role with the Renegades WBBL club. General manager James Rosengarten expressed gratitude for Helmot’s contributions to the club.

“Simon has been an incredible part of the Renegades for a long time and has made significant contributions to our club. He has not only achieved success on the field but has also greatly influenced the people and culture around him,” Rosengarten said, as reported by ESPNcricinfo.

“His ability to connect with players, staff, and fans, as well as his dedication, has made a lasting impression on our program and the broader Victorian Cricket community. We fully support his decision to pursue this new opportunity, and we’re proud to see him continue on his journey. He will always be a valued member of the Renegades family,” he added.

Helmot’s association with the Renegades goes back to the first season of the Big Bash League in 2011-12, where he worked with the men’s team in its early years. He has established a strong coaching reputation globally, including a championship in the Caribbean Premier League.
