New Zealand cricketer Mitchell Santner has been diagnosed with a grade-three ACL tear after hurting his left shoulder while fielding during IPL 2026. Santner, who plays for the Mumbai Indians, suffered the injury while competing against the Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium on April 23, as confirmed by New Zealand Cricket (NZC).
He could not continue in the match and was substituted. The next day, it was announced that Santner would miss the rest of the IPL season, and his absence will extend to International games with the BlackCaps. He will not participate in the upcoming one-off Test against Ireland, although he might be available for the latter part of the series against England.
“The 34-year-old returned to New Zealand this week and consulted a specialist who recommended at least a month of rest and rehabilitation. This means he is out for the one-off Test against Ireland and the first Test against England. His potential return for the second and third Tests will be assessed later,” NZC announced on Friday, May 01.
