Monty Desai has officially been appointed as the head coach of Canada’s men’s Cricket team, as confirmed by Cricket Canada. He has an impressive background, having coached top teams like Afghanistan and Nepal, along with experience in domestic and franchise leagues both in India and overseas.

Cricket Canada recently sought a new head coach after Ingleton Liburd’s exit following the T20 World Cup 2026. Upon his appointment, Desai shared his enthusiasm, noting his awareness of the team’s potential.

“I am honoured to take on this role and appreciate Cricket Canada for their trust. My experience in Canada has given me insight into the system’s potential and the passion for the game,” Desai said in a statement reported by ESPNcricinfo.

“Associate cricket is vital for the global expansion of the sport today, and nations like Nepal and Afghanistan show what belief, discipline, and courage can achieve. Canada has a similar opportunity, and my goal is to build a culture that translates this potential into consistent International performances,” he added.

Cricket Canada’s objective with Desai’s appointment is to restore professionalism in their cricketing setup. The board aims to adopt a purpose-driven approach.

“Our main priority is to bring back Cricket Canada’s prominence through performance, professionalism, and a revitalized sense of purpose. Appointing Monty Desai aligns with this vision. His experience with associate nations, especially Nepal and Afghanistan, highlights his ability to transform teams with effective leadership, discipline, and a clear long-term strategy,” said Arvinder Khosa, president of Cricket Canada.

“Building on our recent ICC Men’s T20 World Cup appearance, this year is crucial, and we believe that under his leadership, the team will achieve significant progress,” Khosa added.
