Suryakumar Yadav will join the Mumbai Indians’ team ahead of their match against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Sunday, May 10. He recently welcomed a baby girl with his wife, Devisha Shetty, and was given paternity leave, staying behind while the team traveled to Raipur for the important match against the defending champions.
According to a report from Cricbuzz, Suryakumar is expected to arrive in Raipur soon and is likely to play in the game at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium. He led the Mumbai Indians in their last match after regular captain Hardik Pandya was sidelined due to back spasms. The team won against the Lucknow Super Giants by six wickets at the Wankhede Stadium, successfully chasing down a target of 229 runs and breaking a three-match losing streak.
How has Suryakumar Yadav performed with the bat?
Suryakumar had an impressive season in last year’s IPL, scoring 717 runs in 16 matches with an average of 65.18 and a strike rate of 167.92. He hit five half-centuries, with a top score of 73 not out.
This season, IPL 2026, has not been as successful for the 35-year-old. He struggled with his batting during international games, including the T20 World Cup 2026 prior to the IPL. Unfortunately, his poor form has continued into the league.
In 10 innings, he has managed only 195 runs at an average of 19.50 and a strike rate of 145.53. Known for hitting sixes, he has only managed to hit five maximums during this challenging period.
The arrival of his baby could bring a turnaround in form for Suryakumar as the Mumbai Indians aim to finish the season strong.
