Former Indian cricketer Anil Kumble has discussed the possibility of MS Dhoni playing in the upcoming match between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2026. The match is set for May 10 at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Kumble indicated that the experienced wicketkeeper is putting in the effort to regain his full fitness. However, he might choose not to return to the playing XI to maintain the team’s current momentum. He mentioned that CSK is known for supporting their established lineup and usually avoids making unnecessary changes when they are on a winning streak.

“CSK is a side that prefers not to disrupt their winning streak. They rarely alter their winning combination and believe in supporting their players,” Kumble said on Star Sports.

Kumble also highlighted that Dhoni has been training rigorously and has started wicketkeeping drills during practice. He observed that Dhoni seems eager to return to top form, but might still avoid changing a successful team lineup, a strategy often used by CSK.

“MS Dhoni has been batting frequently in the nets and even practicing wicketkeeping, which is unusual for him as he seldom does that in practice sessions,” Kumble stated.

“While Dhoni is working hard to regain his fitness, I believe he might opt not to join the playing XI to avoid disrupting CSK’s momentum and the effective player combination that contributed to their success,” he added.

Regarding CSK’s performance, the team is currently in sixth place on the table with five wins from ten matches. They have secured wins against Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, and Kolkata Knight Riders. To improve their chances of qualifying for the playoffs, they need to win their remaining four matches.
