England may soon become the first major Test-playing country to visit Nepal. The England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is looking to arrange a short International white-ball series during the 2027-2031 match cycle.
Cricket is rapidly gaining popularity in Nepal. In September 2025, Nepal secured its first series win against an ICC full-member team by defeating the West Indies in a three-match T20I series held in the UAE. In March 2026, Cricket Ireland announced a five-year ‘strategic partnership agreement’ with the Cricket Association of Nepal and plans to tour Nepal in winter 2026-27.
England and Nepal met for the first time at the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in February at the Wankhede Stadium. According to ESPNcricinfo, after this match, Paras Khadka, secretary of the Cricket Association of Nepal and former captain, met with ECB officials in India.
“It would mean a lot, especially if Australia or England comes to Nepal. That would show world cricket [that] Nepal also plays cricket and plays decent cricket. It is very important,” said Nepal captain Rohit Paudel during the T20 World Cup.
The ECB is in dialogue with several cricket boards to finalize schedules for the 2027-2031 Future Tours Programme (FTP) cycle and is awaiting updates on the ICC World Test Championship rules. They are considering a short white-ball tour to Nepal, possibly scheduled before an important series in the subcontinent.
Earlier this year, England and Nepal had a captivating match at the T20 World Cup. Batting first, England scored 184/7, with contributions from captain Harry Brook and Jacob Bethell, and a quick 39 runs off 16 balls from Will Jacks. For Nepal, Dipendra Singh Airee and Nandan Yadav each took two wickets.
Nepal made an impressive effort in their chase but ended up just four runs short of victory. Airee led the scoring with 44 runs off 29 balls, while captain Rohit Paudel managed 39 off 34 balls, and Lokesh Bam scored 39 runs from 20 balls, thrilling the crowd at the Wankhede Stadium.
