Australia registered its second-highest total in One-Day International cricket as it amassed 431 runs for the loss of two wickets after electing to bat in the third and final one-day match against South Africa in Mackay on Sunday.

Australia’s highest total ever in the format had also come against South Africa, back in 2006, when it racked up 434 runs in 50 overs, only for the Proteas to overhaul it and register a historic win.

This is the third time the Aussies have breached the 400-run mark in 50-over cricket. The mammoth total was set up by centuries from Australia’s top three batters—Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh and Cameron Green.

The host currently trails the three-match series 0-2 and is eyeing a consolation win.
