India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate has responded to media reports regarding Virat Kohli’s involvement in the upcoming three-match ODI series against Afghanistan at home.
Ten Doeschate noted that the team management and selectors need a few more days to evaluate everyone’s fitness before making a final decision. Besides Virat, there are also concerns about Rohit Sharma’s fitness. Rohit, who suffered a hamstring injury during the latest edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), will only participate in the series if he clears the fitness tests.
“Official communication will follow. It’s significant news when it involves someone like Virat or Rohit, but we will follow our usual protocols. We’ll assess their fitness, and we have some days to determine if they can play and adjust the squad as needed. Official updates will come as soon as the medical team provides the information,” said Doeschate in a pre-match press conference before India’s one-off Test against Afghanistan, responding to queries about Rohit and Virat’s participation in the ODI series.
