Will Young has taken Kane Williamson’s place in New Zealand’s squad for the upcoming Test series against England. Young is set to join the team on June 14 (Sunday) and will begin training on Monday to prepare for the second Test starting on Wednesday, June 17.
At 33 years old, Young has played 23 Tests for New Zealand, scoring 1,215 runs at an average of 31.97, including 11 half-centuries. He is eager to score his first century in Test Cricket during this series if given the chance.
Meanwhile, Kane Williamson has stated that he will stay with the New Zealand squad for a few more days before officially stepping away.
“I’ll be around for a little bit but yes, giving the team a bit of space,” Williamson said at his retirement press conference. “It’s delicate. For some players, this is new information, and it’s a transition, so we’ll handle that in the coming days.”
“There’s growth to be had too; I’ve been part of this for quite some time. There are many leaders in this group, and I remember when other leaders left. My leaving will also create space for that growth.”
