Fast bowler Shikha Pandey has encouraged India Women’s captain, Harmanpreet Kaur, to play more freely as they prepare for their Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 match against Bangladesh on Thursday, June 25. Shikha has raised concerns about Harmanpreet’s strike rate, which could impact India’s chances of securing a semi-final spot in the tournament.
Shikha, who last played internationally in 2023, suggested that Harmanpreet should promote herself in the batting order, moving players like Jemimah Rodrigues down. This adjustment could help Harmanpreet focus less on rebuilding the innings and more on scoring runs quickly.
“Harmanpreet Kaur’s strike rate is a concern for India’s middle order. If a wicket falls early, we often see Yastika Bhatia come in, with Jemimah Rodrigues batting at number four. We might see Harman come in at four and Jemimah drop to five,” Shikha mentioned via JioStar.
Shikha believes that once Harmanpreet gets set at the crease, she can score at a better rate and show her strengths as a batsman. Ahead of the important game against Bangladesh, she hopes Harmanpreet will take the time to settle in and contribute significant runs for her team.
“Wherever she bats, Harman should avoid worrying about fallen wickets and not focus on rebuilding. When Harmanpreet is in form, she plays exceptionally well. Once she gets comfortable, we can expect those straight drives and shots over deep mid-wicket. She excels against spinners, so getting set will be key for India,” she added.
Harmanpreet will lead the Women in Blue in the match against Bangladesh at Old Trafford, Manchester.
