The 2026 T20 World Cup is approaching, and teams are gearing up for the event. Tensions are high among subcontinental rivals, with discussions heating up on social media as the Cricket community prepares. Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif celebrated his country’s victory over Australia in the first T20 match by posting on X (formerly Twitter). He praised both the players and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) leadership. However, the post faced backlash, with former Indian player Aakash Chopra highlighting that the victory was not as significant as it seemed.
“Well done Team Pakistan for an electrifying performance against Australia in the first T20I. I also appreciate Chairman PCB @MohsinnaqviC42 and his entire team for their tireless efforts in strengthening Pakistan cricket. Proud moment for the nation,” Sharif wrote on X.
Aakash Chopra, known for his straightforward cricket analysis, responded with a respectful critique that attracted attention. He noted that the current Australian team in Lahore is not their top squad.
“With due respect…it’s a bilateral T20I against Australia’s B team. Many main players have given it a miss. And a 20-run win in a 170-run game can’t possibly qualify as ‘electrifying’,” he replied.
