The ICC has announced the schedule for the T20 World Cup 2026 warm-up matches, taking place from February 2 to February 6. These games will be the last chance for teams to fine-tune their skills before the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 kicks off on February 7.

ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Warm-Up Matches: Format and Plans

The warm-up matches aim to help teams prepare in a relaxed setting. Unlike regular T20I games, these fixtures allow all 15 squad members to participate without the need to announce a fixed playing XI at the toss. This gives teams the opportunity to rotate players and try different combinations without the pressure of winning.

For India, the strategy is a bit different. The senior men’s team will only play one warm-up match, while the rest will involve the India A squad. This approach allows the management to give less experienced players valuable time on the field while keeping key players rested for the main event.

With the World Cup starting the day after the warm-up period ends, these matches are crucial. Teams will prioritize execution over results, focusing on settling opening partnerships, testing bowling strategies, and finding the right balance in the middle overs.

Venues and Pitch Conditions in India and Sri Lanka

The warm-up matches will take place across India and Sri Lanka, exposing teams to various pitch and weather conditions similar to those expected during the tournament.

Bengaluru’s BCCI Centre of Excellence is known for its consistent surfaces that benefit both batters and fast bowlers.

Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium typically favors spin, allowing teams to refine their middle-over strategies.

Navi Mumbai’s Dr DY Patil Sports Academy features batting-friendly pitches, ideal for power-hitting practice.

In Sri Lanka, venues like R Premadasa Stadium and Sinhalese Sports Club provide slower pitches in humid conditions, helping teams adjust to challenging environments.
