The Delhi Capitals (DC) have replaced Ben Duckett with another English player, Rehan Ahmed, for the rest of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL).
The 21-year-old joined the team for INR 75 lakh. Ahmed was not sold during the 2026 mini auction but was available through the Registered Available Player Pool (RAPP). This marks his first time joining an IPL franchise.
“The Delhi Capitals are pleased to announce the signing of young England star Rehan Ahmed for the remainder of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. The 21-year-old leg-spinner will replace opening batter Ben Duckett, adding a new edge to the Capitals’ bowling lineup. Known for his tricky googlies and strong lower-order batting, Rehan joins Kuldeep Yadav and Vipraj Nigam as wrist-spinning options,” stated the official announcement from DC.
Ahmed has played 13 T20I matches for England, taking 15 wickets and maintaining a strike-rate of 142.30 with the bat. He has gained valuable experience in the franchise circuit, playing with the Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League and the Trent Rockets in The Hundred 2025. He has also participated in two seasons of the ILT20 with the Gulf Giants.
Ahmed previously played for Leicestershire in Division One of the Rothesay County Championship, having been part of their squad following promotion last season. He featured in two matches but will now head to India for the IPL.
Duckett withdrew from the 2026 IPL to focus on his England career after a challenging Ashes series, where he averaged only 20.20 and did not score above 50. He is currently playing for Nottinghamshire in the County Championship.
