Australia’s top fast bowler Mitchell Starc is set to join the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 after clearing shoulder and elbow issues. He is expected to arrive in India on Friday, April 24.
The 36-year-old pacer aims to return to the field for Delhi Capitals in their match against Rajasthan Royals on May 1, assuming his preparations go smoothly. His inclusion will significantly strengthen the Axar Patel-led team.
Starc performed well in IPL 2025 for the Delhi franchise, taking 14 wickets in 11 matches with an economy rate of 10.17. He also achieved his first five-wicket haul in the league during that season.
He has been absent from competitive Cricket since late January after a busy playing schedule. Starc played a crucial role in The Ashes series for Australia, receiving the Player of the Series award for claiming 31 wickets at an average of 19.93 while bowling over 150 overs across five Tests.
Following The Ashes, he participated in the Big Bash League with the Sydney Sixers, helping them reach the final. However, he suffered a significant injury to his left shoulder and elbow while attempting a catch in a match against the Perth Scorchers.
After taking a break in February, Starc felt discomfort when he resumed bowling, which delayed his arrival for the IPL and raised doubts about his participation. This situation led to speculation, prompting Starc to publicly address the misunderstandings surrounding his absence.
In a positive turn for Delhi Capitals, Starc has recently completed a week of pain-free bowling sessions at home in Sydney. He is expected to undergo a brief acclimatization period and gradually increase his workload upon arriving in India, aiming to be ready for the match in Jaipur.
