Pakistan batter Babar Azam will miss the first Test against Bangladesh due to a knee injury. The two-match Test series is set to begin on May 8 at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka, and this injury is a significant setback for the team.

Babar performed well in the recent Pakistan Super League 2026 (PSL 2026), where he was the top run scorer, helping Peshawar Zalmi clinch the title. He arrived in Bangladesh on May 4, shortly after the PSL final.

He trained with the team for two days without any issues, but on Thursday, he felt pain in his left knee, leading the medical staff to decide that he should rest for the first Test.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced, “Babar Azam will not be available for the first Test match against Bangladesh due to a left knee injury. The medical team is assessing his condition, and updates will be provided.”

This will be the first away Test Babar misses since January 2021, and his absence will create a significant gap in the batting order, likely to be filled by a newcomer.
