Jasprit Bumrah stepped in as captain for the Mumbai Indians in their IPL match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on May 14 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium. He took over from Suryakumar Yadav, who was absent due to personal reasons.

Meanwhile, full-time captain Hardik Pandya is recovering from back spasms and could not play. Bumrah became the tenth player to captain the Mumbai Indians. The team made two changes, opting to bowl first, with Suryakumar and AM Ghazanfar out of the lineup.

MI included Sherfane Rutherford and Shardul Thakur in their squad for the match as they aim to finish the season strongly. PBKS also made three changes, bringing in Harpreet Brar, Xavier Bartlett, and Azmatullah Omarzai.
