The IPL 2026 final between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad may face delays due to a yellow alert issued by the local meteorological department for Sunday, May 31.
Ahmedabad has been experiencing a heatwave with temperatures reaching the early 40s (°C). Forecasts indicate possible rain on May 31 and June 1, raising concerns about the match being affected by the weather.
What if there’s no play on May 31?
The BCCI has a reserve day for the final. If rain prevents play on Sunday, the match will be rescheduled for Monday, June 1. Match officials aim to complete the game on the original day if interruptions are minimal.
What if the reserve day also gets affected?
Rain is predicted to be more likely in Ahmedabad on Monday, which raises the risk of another washout. If play cannot happen on June 1, RCB will be declared the IPL 2026 champions. This decision is based on RCB finishing first in the points table after the league stage, surpassing GT on net run rate. Both teams had 18 points, but RCB’s NRR of 0.783 was better than GT’s 0.695, securing them the top spot and the title by default.
