Cricket West Indies (CWI) has reintroduced Shimron Hetmyer into the ODI team, as he is included in the 15-player squad for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka at home.

Hetmyer, 29, earned this selection following his outstanding performance at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 in the Indian subcontinent. He was the leading run-scorer for West Indies, amassing 248 runs in seven innings with an average of 41.33 and a strike rate of 186.46, which included two half-centuries. His contributions were key in helping West Indies reach the Super Eight stage.

“After his strong performances at the recent ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Shimron Hetmyer has been reintegrated into the West Indies ODI setup as part of CWI’s preparation for the 50-Over World Cup scheduled for next year. He will join the squad before the third and final match,” a CWI press release stated.

Pacer Alazarri Joseph, who has been sidelined due to a back injury since July last year, also returns to the ODI squad. Additionally, slow left-arm bowler Gudakesh Motie comes back after missing the away series in New Zealand last November.

Alick Athanaze, Johann Layne, Khary Pierre, and Romario Shepherd, who were part of the last ODI series against New Zealand, have been omitted from this squad.

The three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka is set to take place at Sabina Park in Jamaica from June 3-8.

This series is crucial for the West Indies as they seek to secure automatic qualification for the 2027 ODI World Cup. The top eight teams, along with the hosts, will automatically qualify for the tournament.
