Cricket Canada has reacted to the ICC’s decision to immediately suspend its membership, calling it unexpected. The organization confirmed that it will follow all directives from the global governing body. Their focus is now on restructuring internal governance and improving financial management.

The ICC imposed the suspension during its board meeting in Ahmedabad on June 1, citing serious violations of the membership obligations. However, Canada’s national teams will still be able to compete in ICC tournaments despite the ongoing suspension.

“The suspension came as a surprise, especially since the Jurist Led Committee was already working and expected to provide interim recommendations within two weeks. However, Cricket Canada respects the ICC’s decision and is determined to fulfill all compliance requirements. The Board has instructed the Committee to speed up its investigative and reform efforts to enhance governance and financial oversight,” Cricket Canada stated.

“Cricket Canada’s board has submitted a detailed Corrective & Preventative Action Plan (CAPA) to the ICC. This plan includes: a thorough Root Cause Analysis of governance and financial issues; immediate corrective actions aimed at governance and financial reporting; long-term preventative measures for institutional stability; and a clear timeline for meeting ICC compliance requirements,” it added.

According to the statement, an independent, jurist-led committee has been established to conduct a full review of operations. This committee is responsible for leading the investigation and implementing reforms to strengthen governance.

“A main element of the CAPA is the creation of an independent jurist-led committee with full authority to investigate and make decisions. This committee is chaired by Dasha Peregoudova, a respected Canadian lawyer and former national team athlete. It has complete access to financial records, the authority to interview staff, and aims to produce interim recommendations within 14 days, a full investigative report within 45 days, and a comprehensive remediation plan,” it explained.

“Cricket Canada has also begun several reforms, including reactivating the Finance & Audit Committee, preparing a revised budget for 2026 with accurate reporting, speeding up audit processes, implementing governance training, and addressing previous failures in financial controls,” it added.
