Former Australian captain Michael Clarke shared details about a serious car accident he experienced while on his way to the airport after the IPL final.
Clarke stated that his car collided with the underside of a truck while he was asleep during the ride. He was unaware of the situation until he woke up to find the car in a dangerous position.
“It was an interesting trip home. Thank God for the good people in India; that’s why I made it home safely. I was asleep and fell asleep after the game. Obviously, I wasn’t driving. When I woke up, the front half of the car was under a truck,” Clarke said on the Beyond23 Cricket Podcast.
Clarke explained that the truck ahead had problems with its brake lights. Although he suffered minor injuries, he was worried about the driver of the other vehicle, who might have broken his leg and was panicking because the truck was not his.
“The driver told me that the truck’s brake lights weren’t working. My driver ended up hitting the truck. It was a big semi-trailer, and our car went underneath. I got away with some bruises, but I think he might have broken his leg. He was really scared; it wasn’t his car, he works for the company,” he said.
Clarke thanked members of the BCCI for checking on him after the accident, expressing his relief at escaping without serious harm.
“Everyone at the BCCI has been in touch with me, and they’ve been amazing. I’m very grateful for that. It was a complete accident. These things happen, but for me, it was the shock of waking up so close to a truck. Not the best way to get home, but I made my flight. I’m back and thankful to have been part of another great IPL season. I love it,” he added.
