Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh is set to start his coaching career with the Delhi Capitals for the 2027 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Reports indicate that he will be joining the franchise under the guidance of Sourav Ganguly, his first International captain, who will serve as the director of Cricket.
A senior official from Delhi Capitals confirmed this news. Yuvraj is entering a new chapter after stepping away from major roles following his retirement in 2019. He previously played for the Delhi Daredevils in the 2015 IPL season.
“Who wouldn’t want Yuvraj Singh on the team? Many of his former teammates, such as Ashish Nehra, Zaheer Khan, and Virender Sehwag, have also taken up coaching roles in the IPL. While Yuvraj may be joining a bit later, he has spent significant time working with young players and understanding the coaching role,” a source told The Times of India.
Yuvraj has a solid background, having won two IPL championships. He played a key role in developing Abhishek Sharma into a strong T20 player and has also mentored current Indian captain Shubman Gill. Before IPL 2026, he worked with Rishabh Pant, the captain of Lucknow Super Giants.
“He goes beyond just training players; he truly mentors them. His approach isn’t just through calls or virtual meetings. He spends hours on the field, working alongside players, which has significantly helped many cricketers,” the source added.
Yuvraj is recognized for nurturing numerous cricketers from Punjab, including Prabhsimran Singh, Anmolpreet Singh, and Naman Dhir.
