Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a remarkable century in the third ODI against Afghanistan last week, but he has not been selected for the Indian team in the upcoming series against England. The Indian team will play three ODIs against England in Birmingham, Cardiff, and London on July 14, 16, and 19.
Former India opener Aakash Chopra pointed out that Jaiswal has been dropped from the team multiple times even after making significant contributions. He was brought into the squad as a replacement for the injured Virat Kohli during the Afghanistan series but has now been left out as Kohli has returned to the squad, pending fitness. Chopra expressed that Jaiswal might be wondering what more he can do, especially since Ishan Kishan is chosen over him due to his versatility as a wicketkeeper and middle-order batsman.
“Yashasvi Jaiswal deserves sympathy. He has only played a few matches and has two centuries to his name. After scoring a century against South Africa, he was dropped. Now, he scored another century against Afghanistan and is left out again,” Chopra stated in a video on his YouTube channel.
“He will surely ask himself, ‘What more can I do?’ Shubman Gill is alongside Rohit Sharma, while Ishan Kishan offers various options. He can play as a keeper, middle-order, or opening batsman, which makes him very valuable. It’s tough for Yashasvi; he keeps scoring runs, but his name doesn’t come up,” he added.
Kishan was the second-highest run-scorer in the series against Afghanistan, accumulating 159 runs in two innings at a strike rate of 157.43. In the second ODI in Lucknow, he scored 125 off 79 balls. In contrast, Jaiswal made an unbeaten 110 off 86 balls, hitting 14 fours and three sixes in his century in Chennai.
