India’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur made history by becoming the first player ever, in both men’s and women’s Cricket, to play 200 T20 International matches. She reached this milestone during India’s ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 match against South Africa at Old Trafford on June 21.

Harmanpreet began her international career in March 2009 with an ODI against Pakistan and played her first T20I later that year against England in Taunton.

Prior to the match, she reflected on her career and acknowledged everyone who contributed to her journey.

“I think it’s been an amazing journey. I never imagined reaching this point, but I’m grateful to God, my family, friends, BCCI, and my teammates for their support,” Harmanpreet said during the toss.

The 36-year-old shared her nerves about the milestone and spoke about debutant Prema Rawat, to whom she presented her first India cap.

“I’m feeling more nervous for my 200th game, while she seems calm. I hope she enjoys the match,” she added.

With 200 T20I matches, Harmanpreet holds the record for the most appearances in this format. New Zealand’s Suzie Bates is next with 184 T20Is, followed by England’s Danni Wyatt-Hodge with 183. Australia’s Ellyse Perry and India’s Smriti Mandhana complete the top five with 177 and 169 matches, respectively.

Among male cricketers, Ireland’s Paul Stirling leads with 163 T20I matches, followed by former India captain Rohit Sharma with 159. Ireland’s George Dockrell, England’s Jos Buttler, and Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi round out the top five.

In the match, India faced a six-wicket defeat to South Africa while defending a target. South African all-rounder Marizanne Kapp was named player of the match for her performance.
