Shree Charani has made a strong impression in International Cricket since her debut in April 2025. In the current Women’s T20 World Cup taking place in the UK, the left-arm spinner has been successful in taking wickets. Although the pitches aren’t ideal for spin bowling, Charani has effectively handled some of the top batters in the sport.

India began their tournament with convincing victories against Pakistan and the Netherlands. However, on June 21, they faced a setback against South Africa. Chasing a target of 159 runs, South Africa was in a tough spot at 25/2 after six overs. However, Marizanne Kapp’s impressive innings of 81 off 45 balls led South Africa to win by six wickets with five balls to spare.

Charani continued to perform well, taking crucial wickets including South African captain Laura Wolvaardt, Annerie Dercksen, and Nadine de Klerk. The 21-year-old concluded her four overs with outstanding figures of 3/24, which included a maiden over.

Wolvaardt was caught and bowled, while Dercksen and de Klerk were bowled out by Charani, who hails from Andhra Pradesh.

With the wicket of Nadine de Klerk, Charani achieved her tenth wicket in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. She now shares the record for the most wickets by an Indian cricketer in a single edition of the event.
