Former player Kevin Pietersen commented on England’s ‘Bazball’ approach after their 253-run loss to New Zealand in the second Test at the Oval.
England’s Cricket team is facing challenges both on and off the field. They entered the series against New Zealand with high expectations after a 4-1 defeat in the Ashes earlier in the year. Although they won the first Test at Lord’s, issues in their gameplay were apparent during their recent defeat in South London. Additionally, captain Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson were sidelined after being involved in a nightclub incident.
Pietersen believes the scrutiny on England’s Test team is intensifying due to these recent events. He noted that criticism was inevitable following their latest losses, influenced by the media’s reach.
“Jeepers – the [knives] are out for Bazball, a lot quicker than I expected. But, the writing was on the wall a few weeks ago. A wise friend once told me about here in the UK…the pen is mightier than the sword,” Kevin Pietersen wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
