After playing a match-winning knock (69 runs from 53 balls) for India in the final of the Asia Cup 2025 on Sunday (September 28) in Dubai against Pakistan, Tilak Varma top-scored for India A on Friday (October 3) in the ongoing second unofficial ODI against Australia A at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. The left-handed batter from Hyderabad walked out to bat at No. 3 for the Shreyas Iyer-led side and, with the help of 5 fours and 4 sixes, scored 94 runs from 122 balls for the hosts.
During his stay at the crease, Varma added 101 runs for the fourth wicket with Riyan Parag (58 runs from 54 balls) to help India A bounce back from 17/3 in 5.3 overs to post a fighting total of 246/10 in 45.5 overs.
For India A, apart from Tilak and Parag, no other top-order batter was able to make any significant contribution with the bat.
There were high expectations from Abhishek Sharma in the ongoing match at Green Park Stadium, but the world No. 1 T20I batter was sent back to the pavilion for a golden duck by Australia A captain Jack Edwards.
Abhishek had skipped his elder sister Komal Sharma’s wedding to play for India A in the ongoing match.
Apart from Abhishek, wicketkeeper Prabhsimran Singh and captain Shreyas Iyer also got out for single-digit scores. While Prabh was sent back to the pavilion by Will Sutherland for 1 run from 10 balls, Edwards picked up Iyer’s wicket. The India A captain, who made 110 runs from 83 balls in the series opener, could only manage to add 8 runs from 13 balls to the team’s total on Friday. He was clean bowled by his Australia A counterpart on the third ball of the sixth over.
Apart from Abhishek and Tilak, Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana are also playing for India A in the second unofficial ODI, and they scored 10* and 21 runs, respectively.
The ongoing match is a must-win for the Australia A team. India A won the series opener in Kanpur on Wednesday (October 1) by 171 runs. In that fixture, Iyer and Priyansh Arya scored centuries, whereas Prabhsimran, Parag and Ayush Badoni crossed the 50-run mark.
