Batting first, the Gujarat Giants posted a target of 167/4 in their 20 overs. Ashleigh Gardner was instrumental, contributing a steady 46 runs to fortify the middle order. For the Mumbai Indians, Amelia Kerr excelled with the ball, recording impressive figures of 2/26.
Harmanpreet Kaur Shines, But Wareham and Devine Lead Gujarat Giants to Victory
The Mumbai Indians made a strong effort but only managed to reach 156/7 in their 20 overs. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur played a remarkable innings, remaining unbeaten at 82, but she did not receive enough backing from her teammates to clinch the win.
The Gujarat Giants’ bowlers maintained focus during crucial moments. Sophie Devine and Georgia Wareham each took two wickets, which helped secure the victory.
Harmanpreet’s performance was outstanding, scoring 82 runs off 48 balls, including eight fours and four sixes, and achieving a strike rate of 170.83. She formed two important partnerships with Amelia Kerr and Amanjot Kaur, keeping the Mumbai Indians competitive. Despite her efforts, she could not lead her team to victory, making her the standout player of the match.
Sophie Devine was the leading bowler, ending her spell with 2/23, which included a maiden over. She provided early breakthroughs by taking out Hayley Matthews and Nat Sciver-Brunt, applying pressure on the Mumbai Indians’ top order.
Georgia Wareham was named Player of the Match for her exceptional all-round performance. She contributed significantly with the bat, scoring 44 runs off 26 balls, which included four boundaries and two sixes, assisting the Gujarat Giants in setting a competitive total.
Wareham also shone with the ball, taking 2/26 in her four overs, dismissing Amelia Kerr and Sanskriti Gupta, effectively controlling the game during the middle overs.
