England captain Charlie Dean has recognized the challenge of performing at home during the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup. She emphasized the team’s aim to minimize the mental strain of expectations. England, one of the top contenders, seeks to claim their first Women’s T20 World Cup title in 17 years, starting their journey against Sri Lanka on June 12.

Before the tournament, England faced a five-wicket loss to Australia in a warm-up match held in Cardiff. They scored 157/6, with Alice Capsey leading the score with 45 runs. Australia successfully chased the target in 18.2 overs, with Ellyse Perry contributing 64 runs.

“We need to address the pressure. We understand there are expectations, and people want us to succeed. If we perform at our best, we have the potential to beat anyone. It’s about framing this challenge as a thrilling opportunity while acknowledging that we feel pressure, just like anyone else. You can’t show courage without fear. We need to support each other through these moments,” Dean shared with Sky Sports.

Dean also highlighted the chance to showcase women’s Cricket to a broader audience during the World Cup. She expressed that England is excited to compete against top teams globally and understands the need to perform exceptionally to reach the finals and end their title drought.

“Every game presents its own challenges, which is thrilling. In T20 cricket, any team can win on a given day. We must be at our best throughout the group stages, and I look forward to seeing how we handle pressure,” Dean noted.

“We’ve discussed our desire to perform well under pressure, and I feel we’re learning how to manage that. I’m eager to see if we can rise to the occasion when it counts because I truly believe in our team,” she added.
