South Africa has revealed its 15-member squad for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, featuring the unexpected return of fast bowler Shabnim Ismail. Ismail, who retired from International Cricket in May 2023, is back to strengthen South Africa’s pace attack in the tournament.
Ismail’s return could be a significant advantage for South Africa. Her ability to deliver fast balls consistently around 120kph will help put pressure on opponents in England’s seam-friendly conditions. She will join Marizanne Kapp, who has taken on a major role in the bowling lineup since Ismail’s departure.
The team includes several seasoned players, such as former captains Sune Luus and Dane van Niekerk, along with Chloe Tryon and Ayabonga Khaka. Laura Wolvaardt, who had a strong performance in the recent 4-1 series win against India, will captain the squad.
