The West Indies have released their 15-member squad for the One Day International (ODI) series against Sri Lanka, starting on Wednesday, June 3. The three matches will take place at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica.
One significant addition is left-handed batter Shimron Hetmyer, who last played ODI Cricket against England in June 2025. Following a strong performance at the 2026 T20 World Cup, where he scored 248 runs at an average of 41.33, Hetmyer has earned his spot back to prepare for the 2027 World Cup.
“Shimron Hetmyer has been reintegrated into the West Indies ODI setup following his impressive performances during the recent ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. This is part of CWI’s strategy for the upcoming 50-Over World Cup next year,” Cricket West Indies stated via ESPNcricinfo.
Fast bowler Alzarri Joseph is also returning to the ODI team after recovering from a back injury that sidelined him for nearly a year. The 29-year-old played for the Quetta Gladiators in the 2026 Pakistan Super League, where he took eight wickets in nine matches.
Alzarri will join Jayden Seales and Shamar Joseph in the bowling lineup. CWI plans to manage their workloads carefully, especially with a busy home season ahead, including matches against New Zealand and Pakistan.
The West Indies need strong performances to secure a spot in the 2027 World Cup in Southern Africa. Currently ranked 10th in the ODI rankings, they are outside the automatic qualification positions, as only the top eight teams will qualify. However, the team has a solid home record, not losing a series since 2023.
