Danni Wyatt-Hodge has expressed confidence in Sophia Dunkley, expecting her to make a significant score ahead of the T20 World Cup. Dunkley has scored in double figures in six out of seven innings for England and her club this summer, but her highest score remains 31.

While Wyatt-Hodge is on maternity leave for the first four T20Is against New Zealand and India, Alice Capsey performed well at the top of the order, delivering a match-winning innings in Derby. With Nat Sciver-Brunt likely to return from a calf injury to the middle order, Dunkley needs to solidify her position as a first-choice player.

“I’ve partnered with Sophia Dunkley for several years, and we all know her talent. She plays aggressively from the first ball, which isn’t easy when the ball is swinging. But she’s been successful at the top, and we’ve had strong partnerships. I’m eager to play alongside her tomorrow and in the World Cup,” said Wyatt-Hodge as reported by ESPNcricinfo.

Wyatt-Hodge anticipates a strong performance from Dunkley in the series finale against India. Dunkley faced challenges during the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup in India, struggling to transform promising starts into significant runs.

“I told her recently that her intent has been fantastic. Opening in T20 Cricket often leads to failures, but she’s approached it fearlessly, which is commendable. I’m proud of her, and I believe a big score is near, especially here in Taunton, which is a great batting venue,” Wyatt-Hodge added.

“I’m expecting Sophia to shine tomorrow night. She has excelled in this format for England, and playing alongside her is wonderful. We enjoy our time on the field and hopefully, we’ll share some smiles again,” she concluded.
