Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) had a solid run in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, finishing third and making it to the playoffs. However, their campaign ended with a loss to Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator. While SRH showed competitiveness, there are areas that need improvement to aim for the title in IPL 2027.
Three changes SRH should consider for IPL 2027:
Enhance bowling and finishing abilities
SRH has a promising group of young bowlers, including Praful Hinge, Sakib Hussain, Harsh Dubey, and Shivang Kumar, who performed well during the season. However, captain Pat Cummins often shouldered the responsibility, especially in challenging moments.
Bringing in one or two seasoned bowlers could greatly enhance the team. Experienced players not only offer stability but also mentor younger members. The finishing lineup also needs strengthening. While Aniket Verma, Salil Arora, and Smaran Ravichandran made contributions, SRH lacked a dependable finisher to reliably see games through. An established lower-order batter could bring the necessary balance and calmness in tight situations.
Strengthen the bowling depth
Despite having quality in their bowling unit, SRH still has concerns about depth. The team depended heavily on its main bowlers, and the backup options often lacked reliability. Players like Harshal Patel, Jaydev Unadkat, Zeeshan Ansari, Dilshan Madushanka, and Gerald Coetzee were available, but the franchise needs a more established bowling core with dependable backups.
Successful IPL teams usually build a bowling group capable of performing consistently over multiple seasons. SRH should aim to build stronger reserves and promote healthy competition in the squad for long-term success.
Add right-handed batters for better balance

One of SRH’s key strengths is their dynamic top order, which includes Travis Head, Ishan Kishan, and Abhishek Sharma. However, having multiple left-handed batters can sometimes make it easier for opposing teams to devise their bowling plans.
Bringing in a right-handed batter could enhance balance and present more challenges for opponents. With Nitish Kumar Reddy positioned at No. 4, SRH should seek to include a right-handed batter higher up the order to increase flexibility and improve match-ups. A more balanced batting lineup could be crucial for SRH to transform playoff appearances into championship wins.
