Sairaj Bahutule has been appointed as the spin-bowling coach for the senior Indian men’s Cricket team. This announcement comes just days before India’s Test match against Afghanistan in New Chandigarh, scheduled to start on June 6.
Bahutule, 53, recently served in the same role with Punjab Kings (PBKS) during the last Indian Premier League (IPL) season. He played two Tests and eight One Day Internationals (ODIs) for India, taking three and two wickets respectively. His Test debut was against Australia in Chennai in March 2001, and his last first-class match was against Sri Lanka at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo in September 2001.
Bahutule made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka in Guwahati on December 22, 1997, with his final ODI appearance coming against New Zealand in Cuttack on November 6, 2003.
He has coached the men’s teams of Bengal and Kerala and was part of Rajasthan Royals (RR) from 2018 to 2021. Bahutule also worked with the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, assisting India A during several tours and providing support to the senior men’s team under head coach Rahul Dravid.
