Australia thrashed South Africa by 276 runs in Mackay on Sunday to register its second-biggest victory in One-Day International cricket and pocket a consolation win.
Set a daunting 432 runs to win, South Africa was bundled out for 155 in 24.5 overs, with left-arm spin-bowling all-rounder Cooper Connolly picking five wickets. Earlier, after electing to bat, Australia rode on centuries from Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh and Cameron Green to amass its second-highest ODI total.
The massive victory on Sunday was Australia’s second biggest, behind its 309-run win over the Netherlands in Delhi, which came during the 2023 World Cup. Overall, this was the sixth-biggest win, by margin of runs, in ODI history.
For South Africa, which clinched the series 2-1, this was its heaviest defeat in 50-over cricket.
India’s 317-run win against Sri Lanka in Thiruvananthapuram in 2023 holds the record for the largest victory in the format.
