Former India fast bowler S Sreesanth has reignited tensions with his ex-teammate Harbhajan Singh, almost two decades after the infamous IPL ‘Slapgate’ incident.
This event occurred during the first season of the Indian Premier League in 2008, when Harbhajan slapped Sreesanth after an intense match between the Mumbai Indians and Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings). Although both players seemed to have moved past the event, it gained attention again when Harbhajan appeared in an advertisement that hinted at the controversial moment.
Sreesanth was not happy about the ad and voiced his disappointment recently. While on a podcast, he was shown a throwback photo of him and Harbhajan in boxing attire.
Responding to the photo, Sreesanth directly challenged Harbhajan to meet him in a boxing ring to resolve their issues.
“This same scene, do you have the guts? Do you have the guts to come into the ring with me? Can you sign and come? Can you? I am asking him. Do you have the guts to come into the ring with me? Wearing this same gloves… This is not acting, I am smiling. You are not even smiling, I don’t know what you are doing. Let’s see. This is an open challenge,” Sreesanth said in an interview with Lallantop.
At 42, Sreesanth emphasized his involvement in combat sports and mentioned he is willing to fight Harbhajan in an official event.
“I am currently in the Bear Knuckle Fight League, and I am also one of the main sponsors of Conor McGregor’s video; one of my good friends sponsored it, so the promotion is also done. I am challenging you, Bhajji (Harbhajan Singh),” he added.
