The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is discussing the potential selection of senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for the upcoming 2027 ODI World Cup. As the tournament approaches, it could be their final chance to compete on this stage. However, questions about their fitness and inclusion remain unclear.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia mentioned that a team of experts is working to determine the future direction of the team, with Rohit and Virat as key considerations. They are involved in discussions alongside other stakeholders, selectors, coaches, and the captain, although these conversations are kept confidential.

“As the head of the board, we have a very well-knit team and a lot of experts. All stakeholders are taken on board. Decisions involve the cricket committee, selectors, support staff, head coach, and players concerned. Regular conversations are happening,” Saikia said, as reported by India TV.

Saikia indicated that the selection process for the 2027 World Cup is ongoing and that there may not be separate discussions for this. He believes such matters will remain internal to the BCCI as decisions are based on strategies for winning the tournament.

“We do not need any special session of interaction. This is an ongoing process. I do not think I should disclose anything to the media or the public because these are strategic discussions. I am not authorized to speak about them publicly. These matters should stay within the boardroom,” he added.

Both Rohit and Virat have stated their desire to represent India and contribute to a win in the ODI World Cup in Africa. However, there are ongoing reports questioning their selection for the important event.
