The Pakistani Government announced on Sunday, February 1, that the national Cricket team will not compete against India in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026. This news was met with humor from Iceland Cricket amid current discussions surrounding the boycott.

Iceland Cricket suggested they were not willing to step in for Pakistan at the event. However, they humorously stated they might reconsider if offered 50 million kronur, which is roughly 3,74,68,417 INR, along with a private jet.

The board posted on X:

“We are aware of changes in the tournament fixtures and the calls for us to fill the sudden void that has emerged on February 15. However, as a responsible board that values consistency and certainty, we remain withdrawn from the tournament. Only 50 million krónur and a private jet will change our minds.”

India and Pakistan are in Group A for the T20 World Cup 2026, which will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. All matches involving Pakistan will take place in Sri Lanka.

The highly anticipated match between India and Pakistan is scheduled for February 15 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

The Official Statement by the ICC on Pakistan’s Boycott Threat

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has responded to Pakistan’s limited participation in the T20 World Cup 2026, hoping for a reconsideration from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

According to the ICC:

“ICC tournaments are built on sporting integrity, competitiveness, consistency, and fairness, and selective participation undermines the spirit and sanctity of the competitions. While the ICC acknowledges the role of governments in national policy matters, this decision is not in the best interest of the global game or fans worldwide, including millions in Pakistan. The ICC urges the PCB to consider the long-term implications for cricket in its country, as it impacts the global cricket ecosystem of which they are an integral part. The ICC’s focus is on the successful delivery of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which is a responsibility of all members, including the PCB. It expects the PCB to pursue a mutually agreeable solution for all stakeholders.”

Pakistan will kick off its T20 World Cup 2026 campaign against the Netherlands at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo on Saturday, February 7.
