Former India all-rounder Madan Lal has criticized the Pakistan Cricket Board for its decision to boycott the upcoming match against India at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2026 on February 15.

The 74-year-old pointed out that India will remain unaffected by this choice, while Pakistan and Bangladesh will face negative repercussions.

“The Pakistan government or PCB is harming their own cricket. This decision won’t fix their issues. Someone needs to think clearly. Supporting Bangladesh isn’t our concern. Both Bangladesh and Pakistan will ultimately face the consequences,” Lal stated, as reported by Hindustan Times.

He also mentioned that countries like England, South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia are crucial for attracting crowds and sponsorships.

“New Zealand, England, South Africa, and Australia are the key countries for cricket. They will bring in the crowds and sponsorships,” he added.

On February 1, the Pakistan Government confirmed that their cricket team could participate in the World Cup, but they would not compete against India.

Expect a change from Pakistan: Sunil Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar also shared his views on Pakistan’s involvement. The former opener suggested a potential shift in position from Pakistan regarding their participation in the tournament.

“In the next four or five days, as reactions come in from around the world and even from their past players, Pakistan might reconsider their stance,” Gavaskar noted, according to The Hindu.

“This isn’t surprising. We know many Pakistani cricketers announce retirement and then reverse it a few days later because fans want them to continue. This could happen again,” he added.

The Pakistan team, led by Salman Ali Agha, recently completed a whitewash against Australia before the tournament, and they are placed in Group A alongside India, USA, Netherlands, and Namibia.
